Bali Travel Guide: There is a
reason that adventurers, surfers, spiritualists, politicians, and artists
from around the globe have journeyed to Bali over the last 40 years; it is a
magical place. Some come for the nightlife, others for the waves. Many come
here for short visits and plenty stay for months, even years. The Balinese
are the only remaining Hindus in all of Indonesia, which was once home to a
massive Hindu kingdom and is now the largest Islamic population on earth.
The Balinese culture, like their island, radiates with an electric ambiance.
Nowhere else could one travel into a small village and find a Mosque,
Synagogue, Catholic Church, and Buddhist temple side by side, literally! In
the 80's a law was passed that prohibits the construction of obtrusive
buildings, which would surely take away from Bali's natural aesthetic.
Although there are large resorts and several sections of the island have
been highly urbanized, to this day no building is allowed to reach higher
than the tallest palm tree. This is not Hawaii, Fiji, or the
Caribbean. Bali cradles a vast reservoir of history, culture, and beauty
that is unparalleled.Take my lead and hopefully one day you'll be able to
see for yourself! |
